I have been designing, building and installing Custom Made wood projects for over 35 years. I have built houses from Maine to California and operated my own Custom wood shop for over 15 years. I am now residing and working back in California where I plan on continuing my passion for working with wood.
I have chosen three great projects to feature here. A built in Cherry Bookcase with Heater vents at the base since it sits atop a baseboard heating unit.
Solid Red Oak open riser stairs for a loft house. The stringers are composed of two, true 5/4" X 8"W X 14'L pieces, through carriage bolted together, with a 3/8" thick X 5-1/2"steel flitch plate packed out to 5/4" w/ a 5/4" verticle piece supporting the 2-1/4" thick X 12"W X36"L treads.
I custom built and installed all three doors and their frames pictured here.
1st. Door: Solid Honduran Mahogany, 6-6" Chamford edged 2' thick, solid splinned joined pieces. Center window is also a door which can be opened to talk to a visitor. Threshold is 2" thick solid White Oak, Door frame is true 5/4" Jamb stock with rabbited door stop and weatherstripping. Solid Brass Baldwin Hardware.
2nd. Door: Solid 2" thick Rail and Style Panel door with Stained Glass insulated panels. Bottom panels are hand carved Birds of Paridise flowers, identicle inside and out. Shop milled pilasters and trim for stained glass panels. Door measures 8' H X 36"W X 2-3/4" thick w/four hinges per door. Header and foot bolt for fixed door. Solid White Oak 8/4" thick X 8"W X 8"H Door jamb lag screwed into framing with bolt heads hidden with solid Mahogany Door stop

3rd. Door: Solid Hondoran Mahogany, constructed of 7- 2" X 6" X 7'4"H splined joined chamford edged pieces with leaded glass window. 10" wrought iron strap hinges with simple latch type entry handle. I constructed the door first and then by bending multiple layers of thin milled mahogany around the door, to act as a mold, I constructed the 5/4" thick X 4" W curved jamb. I routed the trim to match the curve of the door which is equal to the curve of the stone opening. I carved a rabbit into the granite to inset the jamb into the opening so the interior trim would be flush with the stone surface.

Solid Maple Corner Hutch with arched doors.

Solid Cherry Fireplace with Granite Hearthstone.
